Lately, I've been on a science fiction kick, and thought I would ask the rest of you on your thoughts.
If we had something similar to our planet back in a near Pangaea with the usual environments (desert, rain forest, arctic, plains, etc), what do you think would have developed? The air is denser, so true flight wouldn't be a necessity, correct? If the water is denser then on earth, but gravity is normal, how would the aquatic life evolve? What would the creatures be like? How would they move, eat, sleep, blend in, hunt, etc?
Would they be brown, gray, or even bright pink?
Share your thoughts! Doesn't matter what environment we start with! Just get typing! And a planet name would not go amiss either~ :3
I'll start even.
Given the fact that amphibian like creatures would practically thrive in a rain forest, why not find more there? Bright colors would denote it as poisonous to eat, and instead of four legs, it has six... no, eight legs. Why? Well, the better to climb trees and cling to them, especially if they have special ridges on the pads of their feet to hook onto things, like a gecko. So many legs would require at least a long and lanky body to hold them all a decent amount apart so it doesn't trip over itself, which would defeat the purpose of climbing. Bright colors would be worthless if it's nocturnal, so it operates during the day, staying off the ground to avoid predators. And of course, each one would have different patterns to denote different specimens. Usually pink and black in color, the brighter the pink, the more poisonous the individual, usually attained by what they eat in the treetops.
It would need good eyes to jump and climb, and it has three eyes because the two are set on the sides and face off to the sides, meaning it's more of a prey item and it needs to watch itself, and when all three eyes are focused forward, it helps it see better and more clearly.
We will call this guy... hm... the Pink-hued Salamander :3
Please note: You definitely don't have to go into this much detail XD
